Chicory
Chicory, a plant from the composite family, has its origins in Europe and Asia. The root of chicory is often dried and ground and is known for its bitter taste. Traditionally, chicory is used as a coffee substitute or as an ingredient in various foods. In livestock farming, chicory also finds its way, especially as supplementary feed for animals such as dogs, chickens, and horses.
For dogs, chicory can aid digestion due to the presence of inulin, a soluble fiber that promotes gut health. In chickens, chicory can contribute to improved appetite and overall vitality. For horses, chicory is sometimes added to the diet to support digestion and as a source of nutrients.
In addition to the benefits for digestion, chicory can also contribute to the overall health of these animals. The use of chicory in animal feed reflects a growing interest in natural and plant-based ingredients within animal nutrition.
