About AskFinecto

The origin of Finecto+ lies in the professional poultry sector, where founder Domien was active for many years. During his work in chicken barns, he was confronted with the enormous impact of red mite infestations — a common problem for which few natural and effective solutions existed at the time.

The challenge in practice

The real challenge began when a poultry farmer approached Domien with the question: “Can you do something about a severe red mite outbreak, but in a legal and above all, natural way?” Domien decided to take on the challenge. He started using silica powder in the barn, hoping to physically reach and control the mites. It soon became clear that simply blowing the powder around had limited effect. The key lay in a targeted approach — following the red mite’s pathway and applying the product exactly there.

This insight led to the development of a concentrated silica emulsion with a special adhesive agent. As a result, the product adhered better to surfaces and could be applied precisely where it was needed. This innovation marked a major breakthrough in red mite control.

Through further field research, Domien also discovered that each life stage of the red mite required a different approach. The larval stages could be effectively targeted with silica, but for adult mites, additional measures were necessary.

The birth of Finecto+

In 2004, the brand Finecto+ was founded. The name stands for ending ectoparasites. While the first successes were achieved in the professional sector, it soon became clear that an integrated approach — combining products and knowledge — was needed to effectively control adult red mites as well.

Finecto+ also gained international recognition in the professional poultry industry. Meanwhile, demand from the hobby market was growing: chicken and bird enthusiasts were increasingly facing red mite infestations. Initially, it was assumed that the professional approach would work for hobby keepers too — but that turned out to be a misconception. Unlike professional facilities, hobby coops usually house fewer animals but have far more hiding spots for mites. This required a completely different strategy.

These new insights and applications led to the further development of the Finecto+ range — both for professional and hobby use.
