Why young bloodsuckers need a different treatment method than older bloodsuckers (in birds and chickens)
The most effective way to combat blood lice is to treat young (larval) and older (adult) lice differently. This is because young and older blood lice behave differently. Young blood lice are found in nests in the coop, while older blood lice are often on the chickens/birds. It is mainly the young lice that are more vulnerable and can therefore be reached with an environmental spray. Older, larger blood lice can easily walk over it and have a harder shell. Therefore, it is important to use both a spray and a dietary supplement when dealing with blood lice problems.

What the difference is between young and old blood lice
Young blood lice are the eggs and larvae that have just hatched. These young lice do not yet feed on the chickens/birds, which is why they are still white in color and do not cause any nuisance. Since they do not eat and are not fully grown, these young lice are somewhat more fragile than adult lice. They are also found in and around the blood louse nest in the chicken coop. Therefore, you can only address these blood lice by treating the environment, while adult blood lice can only be tackled through the chicken.
How do you treat young and old red mites separately?
Young red mites can be treated with an environmental spray of silicon dioxide and a sticking agent. This spray is used to spray the coop in the areas where the red mite moves from the nest to the chicken. The spray acts like a kind of sandpaper, causing the young red mite to scrape its belly open and dry out. As a result, the young red mite does not get the chance to reach the chicken to drink blood. Spray the coop again every 4 weeks for optimal effectiveness. Adult red mites have a harder shell and are higher on their legs, allowing them to walk over the spray without scraping their bellies open. An environmental spray is therefore not suitable for treating adult red mites. By giving chickens an internal dietary supplement based on herbs and essential oils, you make the blood of the chickens indigestible for adult red mites. This prevents red mites from reproducing and causes them to panic because the blood is not digested. Due to this panic, adult red mites become visible during the day, allowing the chicken to eat the red mite.
Conclusion
If you are dealing with a mite problem, there is no way around using the dietary supplement in addition to the spray. This is because otherwise you mainly combat the young mites and not the older ones. Older mites lay eggs, and before you know it, you have young mites again. Therefore, always combine different products for the most efficient approach against mites.
